06 BELMAR Torres
An exciting Morocco team were defeated by a more streetwise Belgium in what was a nice game for José Torres Cadena to open his World Cup. There is little to remark about his performance - disciplinary control was good, foul selection was quite strict, a natural leader whose authority wasn't challenged.
The most interesting scene was a potential second yellow card at 63', but I agree with the Colombian referee that the tackle was just careless. Nowadays he should have issued a yellow card to the goalkeeper at the 88' offside-scene, but in the 1994-optic I don't see any problem with how Torres managed it (Weber was cautioned for not leaving the FoP having asked the trainer to come on). Morocco lost their composure in the last minutes, but the referee kept a hand on everything.
Linesman Tapio Yli-karro did not have his best afternoon - he made an important mistake at 37', and a crucial mistake at 88'. Raimundo Calix García was not really challenged.

Torres was a big surprise at the American World Cup.
ReplyDeleteTorres Cadena did not appear overly challenged and his performance was refreshing - he was less theatrical than many of his colleagues with good decisions. Scene in 88' was a bit unlucky, but couldn't be helped.
ReplyDeleteTorres cadena deserved wc 1994 final
